Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry is taking action to seize the RCEP opp

 On July 6, the China-ASEAN Business Council held the second meeting of the "Symposium on Promoting Industrial Cooperation among RCEP countries". The symposium analyzed the impact of the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement" (RCEP) on the industrial development and cooperation of the agreement countries, and discussed how to seize the RCEP regional opening opportunities in the "dual circulation" economic development. Participants expressed that they would jointly promote RCEP New developments in national industries so as to boost regional economic recovery and growth.

Xu Ningning, Executive President of the China-ASEAN Business Council and Chairman of the RCEP Industry Cooperation Committee presided over the symposium. Xu Ningning mentioned that the signing of RCEP has attracted wide attention nationally and globally. The construction of RCEP is a major innovation in regional multilateral cooperation and free trade. It is related to regional economic recovery and growth and making regional contributions to the recovery and growth of the world economy. "Dual circulation" is an important starting point for external circulation in the development of the economy. RCEP construction is conducive to industrial cooperation, trade and investment cooperation among countries in the region. Chinese chambers and industry should actively play a functional role in RCEP industry cooperation.

Wang Xin, chairman of the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association, said that the implementation of RCEP will bring about a drop in tariffs and trade volume will surely increase. At the same time, all countries should strengthen cooperation in inspection and quarantine, solve the problem of technical trade barriers, realize the liberalization of trade in goods and the facilitation of customs clearance, and create conditions for industrial cooperation. The China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association will enhance cooperation with RCEP countries.

Vice President of China National Light Industry Council and Chairman of China Leather Association Li Yuzhong, Leader of China Electricity Enterprise Confederation Association Gang Yufeng, Vice President of China Packaging Federation Han Xueshan, Chairman of China Food and Packaging Machinery Industry Association Chu Yufeng, executive vice president of the Building Materials Machinery Industry Association Wang Yumin, vice president of China Household Electrical Appliances Association Xu Dongsheng, and vice president of China Bicycle Association Huo Xiaoyun, stated in their speeches that China’s industries and sectors in the RCEP region has a large scale and complete supporting facilities, and complements the economics and trade of RCEP countries. In recent years, there has been a lot of cooperation between enterprises, trade and investment has grown rapidly, and the degree of industrial integration has become higher and deeper. China and RCEP member states should make good use of their respective advantages, seize the opportunities of open markets, accelerate in-depth cooperation, and focus on developing regional growth potential.

The leaders of these Chinese chambers of commerce proposed to strengthen cooperation in product standards of various countries, and looked forward to the improvement of the investment environment of relevant ASEAN countries, and expressed that they would actively cooperate with counterpart associations of various countries.

In closing remarks, Xu Ningning suggested that, first, China’s major chambers of commerce should carefully study the RCEP agreement, grasp the tax reduction situation of the industry’s products in the RCEP, and formulate an RCEP action plan in combination with the industry, so as to better provide guidance and services for corporate cooperation; second, Chinese chambers of commerce should focus on building a good Chinese brand in the RCEP region; third Chinese chambers of commerce should play a fully functional role in the combination of trade facilitation, and put forward specific suggestions on solving technical barriers through matchmaking with counterpart business associations of various countries; fourth, Chinese chambers of commerce should play a functional role in supporting industrial “going out”, strengthen cooperation between upstream and downstream industry business associations, and can take the lead in setting up industrial parks in relevant countries, which can help companies develop new developments in regional industrial cooperation, enhance the improvement and upgrading of industries in related countries.
